Minnewaukan is located in northeastern North Dakota in Benson County (of which it is the county seat) on the northwestern edge of the Devils Lake Sioux Indian Reservation. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 368, a decrease of 33 since 1990.The town is near many recreational facilities and interesting day trips including Sully's Hill National Game Preserve and Ft. Totten State Historic Site located about 15 miles southwest of town.
