Mohall, founded in 1901, is located in northwestern North Dakota in Renville County (of which it is the county seat) about 45 miles north-northwest of Minot and 20 miles south of the Canadian border.

Among the outdoor recreation options for the town are Lake Darling, 10 miles southwest of town; Upper Souris National Wildlife Refuge on the south end of the lake; Upper Des Lacs Lake and Lower Des Lacs Lake, about 25 miles to the west and Des Lacs National Wildlife Refuge on the west side of the lower lake.

For those that enjoy the game of golf, the town offers Mohall Country Club, a public 9-hole course. The relatively short layout (2,575 yards) carries a par of 34 and a U.S.G.A. rating of 31.8.
