Pick City is located in west central North Dakota in Mercer County near the Garrison Dam on Lake Sakakawea.

The town is named for Gen. Lewis A. Pick of the Army Corps of Engineers who helped to develop the plan for the dam which was designed to control flooding and generate electricty. Due to the influx of constuction workers, an organized plat of the town was done--in 1946. It officially became a Village two years later.

The small town is a mecca for outdoor lovers in that Lake Sakakawea State Park is on the outskirts of town. In addition, tours of the Fish & Game Hatchery, about two miles from town, is a popular stop for tourists.
