Gothenburg Nebraska

Gothenburg is located in Dawson County 33 miles southeast of North Platte between Brady and Cozad along Highway 30 near Gallagher Canyon State Recreation Area, Lake Helen Recreation Area and the Platte River.

In the center of one of the richest grain-producing areas in the country. Gothenburg was founded in 1882 by Olof Bergstrom, a native of Hassela, Sweden, who worked for the Union Pacific Railroad.

Gothenburg is a picturesque town with lovely homes and tree-lined streets. There are two Pony Express stations, a sod house museum, and a lake located in the north part of town. Sand volleyball, swimming and non-motor boating are major attractions at Lake Helen in the summer. During the winter, sledding and ice skating are popular.
