Loomis is located in Phelps County just northwest of Holdrege, between Elwood and Holdrege along Hwy 23.The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 381, an increase of 5 since 1990. The town began as a railroad siding on the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy line. This spot remained nameless for about ten years.
