Spencer is located in Boyd County, situated at the Hwy 12 and US Hwy 281 junction, between Butte and Bristow, just south of the South Dakota boarder.

The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 490, a decrease of 46 since 1990.

Spencer has been dubbed the Sportsman's Paradise, offering excellent fishing in the local ponds and rivers. The hunting is unsurpassed, and the recreational water activities are absolutely fantastic. The town has many athletic functions and an excellent park system, complete with pool and camping facilities.

The Niobrara River is only 7 miles to the south and offers some of the best catfishing in the state. The Missouri River is a mere 25 miles to the north and offers a wide array of fishing opportunities. There you will find walleye, northern pike and many other species of game fish.
