Steinauer is located in Pawnee County between Beatrice and Table Rock, along Hwy 4 near Burchard Lake.The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 87, a decrease of 5 since 1990. In 1874, when there was some hope of getting a railroad through the area, a post office was established at the home of the postmaster, Joseph Steinauer.
