Tecumseh is located in Johnson County (of which it is the county seat), situated at the junction of US Hwy 136 & Hwy 50, between Beatrice and Auburn. This community is also positioned along the banks of the Big Nemaha River.

The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 1,691, a decrease of 11 since 1990.

Tecumseh was officially incorporated in 1856.

The faculty includes theatre professionals, actors, and educators experienced in performing and teaching Shakespeare. Many of the instructors are veterans of festival productions.
