Wayne

Wayne is located in Wayne County (of which it is the county seat), between Norfolk and South Sioux City along Hwy 35, just west of the Winnebago Indian Reservation.

The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 5,373, an increase of 231 since 1990.

Originally named "Brookdale" by railroad officials the settlers persuaded them to rename it "Wayne" for General Anthony Wayne of Revolutionary War fame, for whom the county had been named.

Some area attractions for Wayne include: Garden Perennials - Walk among three acres of flowers and display gardens on this picturesque location in the country located 3 miles south of Wayne on Highway 15, Planetarium - The Fred G. Dale Planetarium is located on the Wayne State College campus in the Carhart Science Building (south entrance), Wayne County Museum - The Wayne County museum is housed in the Rollie Ley mansion, built in the 1890s and the Wayne Chicken Show anually every June.
