Labrador is Newfoundland's territory on the mainland. The boundary between Labrador and Quebec was not determined for many years. In 1927, the Privy Council in London ruled against Quebec's claim that it should control all but a strip along the coast. Instead they placed the boundary far inland, based largely on watersheds. Labrador is important to Newfoundland for its mineral production and hydroelectricity.
