The Transcanada Highway, originating in the west in
Victoria, British Columbia, reaches Newfoundland by a ferry from
Sydney. The ferry arrives at
Channel-Port-Aux-Basques at the southwest tip of the island of Newfoundland. From there, the highway goes north to
Corner Brook and then completes an arc across the northern part of the island, reaching the
Avalon Peninsula and terminating at
St John's.
