Barrington is located in
Strafford County west of
Dover on Highway 9.
Comprising approximately 50 square miles, the town is a result of two land grants -- one presented in 1719 known as the “Two Mile Streak,” and the second, a Royal Grant of King George I of England in 1722. It was named for Samuel Shute of Barrington Hall, colonial governor of Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
