Bennington, incorporated in 1842, is located in Hillsborough County. The town was named in commemoration of the Battle of Bennington, fought August 14-16, 1777, near Bennington, Vermont. Vermont's Bennington was named after Governor Benning Wentworth, who was responsible for naming towns in New Hampshire and Vermont.
