Berlin

Berlin is located in Coos County between Gorham and Milan on Highway 16 near the Androscoggin River. In 1829 the town was incorporated as Berlin, with the approval of the NH Legislature in July of that year. It has been suggested the name Berlin was chosen by the Wheeler settlers from Bethel, Maine, who earlier had lived in Berlin, Massachusetts. Another account indicates the settlers just wanted a name that would not remind them of the British Crown.

In the heart of White Mountains National Forest, the town also boasts of several historical landmarks, many of which are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Some of those historical landmarks include include the City Hall, the Sheridan Building, Burgess Fountain, Princess Theater, Berlin Public Library, St. Anne's Catholic Church as well as other churches and homes.
