Bretton Woods is located in Coos County deep in the White Mountains National Forest. It was named after Bretton Hall, ancestral home of Royal Governor John Wentworth, who made the land grant. Site of the 1944 conference that laid the groundwork for the International Monetary Fund and the world bank and the filming location for 1980 Hollywood movie, "The Shining."
It is the home New Hampshire's largest ski area Bretton Woods Ski Resort. Other attractions include Crawford Notch State Park the Mount Washington Cog Railway and the White Mountain Trail.
