Since 1869 Calef's Country Store, located in
Barrington,
Strafford County, New Hampshire, has been providing locally made products such as home of "Snappy Old Cheese," jams and jellies, soup and bread mixes, candy and soaps.
One of the early Calef's, Austin L. Calef (1871-1954), grew up in his mother’s country store. As he came of age and attended Dartmouth College, he became known as a man of impeccable standards and good tastes. Not only did he run Calef’s Country Store for more than four decades, but he also served in the State Senate for a half dozen years (1933-1939).
