Flume Bridge

The Flume Bridge, located in Grafton County at the junction of N.H. Route 175 and U.S. Route 3, is thought to have actually been built in another location and later moved but the jury is still out on this one. Crossing the Pemigewasset River, this Paddleford truss covered bridge may also have been built, at the current location, by the Lincoln Turnpike Company as part of the newly built U.S. Route 3 in 1871.

Originally the bridge had a shake roof but was later replaced with shingles to stop leaks. The bridge is used to bus visitors to the Flume Gorge and for maintenance vehicles, and qualifies to be registered on the National Register of Historic Places. Visitors may also wish to see Sentinel Pine Bridge located down the road from this bridge.
