Francestown

Within close distance to New Hampshire's newest ski area and was named after Frances Deering Wentworth, wife of Governor John Wentworth. Ideally situated on the second New Hampshire Turnpike, which was the only route between Boston and Vermont, at one time Francetown collected a toll of one cent per mile from travelers on coaches and wagons. The town was also home to a high-quality soapstone quarry where it was mined until the 1890's. It was also formerly the home of well-known author Dean Koontz.
