Dedicated and opened to the public on September 5th, 1893, this Romanesque Rivival style building originally provided 504 flexible seats on the main floor and 288 fixed seats on the second level or balcony and affectionately called "The Opera House." In those days, the term "Opera," referred to many forms of musical and theatrical entertainment. Over the course of many years, The Opera House had served many functions in the town of Franklin, including laying fallow for many years since the 1990's.

The Mission of the Franklin Opera House, Inc. is to restore the Franklin City Hall into a community center for artistic, cultural, community events, and to encourage and promote a love for the arts through a wide variety of programs that will bring together people from all walks of life.

Visit the Opera House to see performances by the Footlight Theater, Franklin Academy of Dance and Theater, and other cultural agencies in the Franklin area.
