This small bed and breakfast is in an 1809 Federal style home in the heart of
Exeter, just two blocks from Phillips Exeter Academy and across the street from a bandstand in Gilman Park. The Inn by the Bandstand was built for George Sullivan, who was a New Hampshire state attorney general, state representative and a member of Congress. His father was General John Sullivan of Bunker Hill fame.
The Inn has nine guest rooms, some suites, all generously decorated with antiques and private baths. There are ten working fireplaces, beautiful high ceilings with crown moldings, wide-plank wood floors in many of the rooms and a delightful curved bannister going up to the third floor. Seven of the nine rooms have fireplaces. There are also two family suites (two bedroom units).
The property features microwaves in rooms, non-smoking units available, refrigeraters, senior discounts, and major credit cards accepted.
The Inn is listed in the National Registry of Historic Places.
