The Little White Church, located in
Eaton, is a non-denominational, non-profit organization governed by a board of local volunteer trustees. The donations received from church functions, weddings, religious and community events go for the maintenance, insurance and continued restoration of the Little White Church.
Originally owned by the Freewill Baptists, a denomination which was founded in New Durham in 1780 by Benjamin Randall, the Little White Church was completed by the end of May 1879 after much controversy and at a cost of $2,000.
The hayday of the Freewill Baptists seem to have been between 1827 through the end of the Civil War and by the end of World War II, the number of Freewillers in Eaton had dropped to one and she was well into her nineties. The church was purchased from the Freewill Society for $1.00 in the 1940's, became the Community Church of Eaton, and was governed and maintained by an association in which anyone could be a member. Services are still conducted there.
