This house is best known as the home of William Whipple, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, the house was built in 1763 by Whipple's father-in-law, John Moffatt, a wealthy sea merchant.
Paneled halls and chambers, an ornate staircase, original furniture and a museum room distinguish the house, which is set amid formal gardens with turf steps and raised beds.
Open Monday through Saturday 11am-4pm, Sunday noon-4pm in June through October.
