Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum |
The Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum is located on the side of Mt. Kearsarge in Warner, New Hampshire, on 100 acres of forest, field, and wetlands. The Museum is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing public awareness of American American traditions, philosophy, and art. Bring a picnic to eat outside and spend the day wandering around the Museum grounds. Scattered throughout the grounds are replicas of American Indian dwellings: a pit house of the Southwest; a Plains Indian tipi; and an inipi, a Lakota "sweat lodge" for cleansing and purification ceremonies.
As you walk along the winding trail which leads through the 2 -acre living museum, Medicine Woods, you will learn about the many ways American Indians used (and still use) the plant in their environmental for medicines, food, dyes, and building materials -- uses which demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the land around them.
