Built in 1832, the Inn of the Tartan Fox was a large homestead in
Swanzey, New Hampshire. The original owners were Benjamin and Abbie Meade and the property came to be known as Meademere. Their daughter Annie married Perley Safford on Christmas day in 1905. Perley Safford also owned Safford Inn on the corner of Main and Water Streets in
Keene. He built Safford Park on Route 12 so he and his son Franklin could train their trotters. Safford Park was later donated to the
Cheshire County Fair Association.
There are five rooms available: The Stewart Room, The Manor Room, The Terrace Room and the Blackwatch Room. Each room has a queen-sized bed, its own private bath with heated marble floor, and other features.
They serve a 'slightly indulgent' breakfast with a 'healthy slant' and in their wood-paneled dining room or on the sun porch. Their menu includes: yogurt pancakes, omelettes made with their own garden fresh herbs, fresh baked muffins and scones, fresh fruit and juices. With advance notice they can also accommodate special dietary needs.
Nearby attractions include six covered bridges, Pisgah State Park, Swanzey Lake, or shops in nearby Keene.
