The UNH Dairy Bar is located in the old
Durham train station and serves breakfast, lunch, and ice cream on a year-round basis, except during
University of New Hampshire's school breaks. They also serve as the Durham stop for Amtrack's Downeaster run.
The small Richardsonesque style train station was originally built in 1896 in Lynn, Massachusetts until 1911 when it was replaced by a larger station. It was later sold to UNH for $1.00, dismantled and completely reconstructed at the UNH in 1912, and was later opened as one of their Thompson School of Applied Sciences training facilities in 1965 called Dairy Bar. The station serves as one of the best examples of turn of the last century train stations.
Other services provided, include: tubs of their premium ice cream for parties as well as everything necessary to make a "monster sundae," box lunches, cookies, muffins, and other treats.
The Downeaster provides four round-trips daily between Portland and Boston, and serving eight communities in between, including Durham.
