Warner House |
The Warner House is the earliest existing brick urban mansion in New England. It was built in 1716-1717 for Captain Archibald Macpheadris and his bride-to-be Sarah Wentworth, daughter of New Hampshires Lieutenant Governor, John Wentworth. The houses many rooms are furnished with many original family pieces, documented by estate inventories and early photographs. Each room represents different owners, culminating in the recently restored parlor of Eva Sherburne (d. 1929), one of the last resi dents. The Warner House is named for the Portsmouth merchant Jonathan Warner, who married Macpheadris's daughter Mary in 1760.
