This 42-room mansion represents three periods of New England architecture and was the official residence of Benning Wentworth, the first royal governor of New Hampshire. State Historic Site.
The mansion evokes the royal governor's occupancy. The mansion was also the summer home of American impressionist painter J. Templeman Coolidge at the turn of the 20th century. The Carriage House has an exhibit about the Coolidge family as artists and a gallery of changing exhibits of works by contemporary regional artists.
Open Wednesday-Sunday from the first week of June through Labor Day Sunday. Hour-long guided tours are offered at intervals through the day.
Admission charged. Free for youths aged 18 and under.
The mansion grounds, overlooking Little Harbor, are available for rental.
