Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the house,which contains origianl built-in and free standing furniture, textiles and landscaping also designed by Wright, replaced an original log cabin built in 1870. It was constructed in 1878, along rather plain lines. The new kitchen, enlarged bedrooms and exterior facelift including trim were added in 1899 in the Queen Anne style.
