Alice Paul, born in Mt Laurel, in 1885, to quaker parents, lived on and off in her three-story farmhouse her whole life, on the 6.5-acre homestead. She attended and graduated from Swarthmore College. After graduating she had many various jobs throughout the region before she became head of the National American Suffrage Association's comgressional committee. Throughout her life she fought many women's rights acts and was jailed many times. She rallied until the year 1977 when she finally reached her death.
