Burlington County and
Ocean County hold the first forest that the state of New Jersey acquired for public recreation, water conservation, and wildlife/timber management in 1905. The park contains the 67-acre Lake Absegami, that was formed in 1930, and serves as the center of the forest's recreational activities, and provides a place for swimming, boating, and canoeing.
Fishing and hunting are allowed as long as New Jersey's Fish and Wildlife Laws are being used. Seventy-four picnic tables with charcoal grills are available, with a picnic shelter, restrooms, and athletic fields nearby. A public boat launch is north of the parking lot. Powered boats can only be electric, and a rowboat concession is operated during summer. Swimming is allowed as long as their is a lifeguard on duty. A beach complex offers a changing area, restrooms, showers, a first-aid station, and a concession building with food, drink, and beach supplies.
