The 157 foot Cape May Lighthouse, built in 1859, is located in Cape May, part of Cape May County. It was built to replace two prior lighthouses and used a first order Fresnel lens. Since being built the lighthouse has been an attention getting landmark as well as a good navigation aid for mariners.

The lighthouse puts out light that is visible 24 miles out into the sea and flashes every 15 seconds. Cape May Lighthouse is still in use today for navigation but also for tourism and interpretation.
