The large Georgian section of this house was built by William Covenhoven around 1752, and the kitchen wing may date even earlier that century. British General
Sir Henry Clinton used the house as his headquarters just prior to the Battle of Monmouth in 1778. A 1790 inventory of Covenhoven's estate lists the furnishings of the main rooms, and show how a successful local farmer lived at the time of the American Revolution.
