Finns Point Lighthouse |
Finns Point Lighthouse is located in Fort Mott State Park which is part of Salem County. Finns Point was built in 1876 and reaches the height of 115 feet. It uses a Fresnel lens and is unusual to other lighthouses in New Jersey because of its structure. It is a tall iron tower supported by a skeleton structure.
Finns Point Lighthouse used to be in Buffalo, NY, where it was actually constructed, but the lighthouse was transferred to Pennsville by trains and mule wagons, because of the change in the shipping channel. In 1977 the keeper's house was demolished. Now all that is left is the lighthouse itself and the oil house.
