Israel Crane House |
Montclair is home to the 1796 Federal-style, Israel Crane house. The house which is located on 86-acres holds its own country store, craft building, kitchen garden, and gazebo. The house to this day still holds an amazing assortment of furniture and artwork.
Israel Crane, a descendant of the Crane family who founded Montclair (formerly known as Cranetown), built the house when he was 22, being a successful merchant. The house was passed down from generation and alterations were made from each descendant.
In 1965 the house was planning to be demolished until the Montclair Historical Society stopped the demolition and moved the house from Old Road to Orange Road.
