Founded in 1865, Saint Barnabas Medical Center is New Jerseys oldest and largest nonprofit, nonsectarian hospital, and among the busiest facilities in New Jersey. This 645-bed institution treats over 40,000 inpatients and nearly 60,000 Emergency Department patients each year. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology delivers 7,000 babies annually, and the Ambulatory Care Center serves over 300,000 outpatients annually. With over 1,500 physicians in 68 medical and surgical specialties and all branches of dentistry, there are over 4,000 employees. As a teaching institution, Saint Barnabas trains 141 residents and fellows each year through 10 approved residency programs. St Barnabas Medical Center is part of the St Barnabas Healthcare System.
