Meadowlands Museum |
Rutherford, located in Passaic County, is home to the Meadowlands Museum. The Museum's home was a farm in the early century until 1974 when the museum was moved to a building that had been listed on the National Register of Historic Sites. The walls of the museum have horse hair reinforcing them and the floor is made of wide pine boards.
The museum focuses on two things. The first being the history of the area, and the second being fine and decorative arts and crafts. There are four permanent exhibits displayed. There is the Homespun Kitchen and the Pre-Electric Kitchen which models how families made clothes and meals before modern day technology. Then there is the Antique Toy Room, Antique Game Room, and the Fluorescent Mineral Room, the shows fossils and minerals from Franklin.
On the first floor of the museum there are changing exhibits throughout the course of the year. Some of those exhibits include art, crafts, quilts, vintage clothing, and history.
