Red Mill Museum Village

The Red Mill Museum Village, located in Hunterdon County is a 10-acre site found along the banks of the South Branch of the is a 10-acre site found along the banks of the South Branch of the [raririver] in historic [clinton]. With its rolling lawns, towering stone cliffs, tranquil river and beautiful waterfall, Red Mill Museum Village provides an ideal spot for visiting.

The mill was constructed in 1763, and was in use until 1928. It was originally a woolen mill, but in the following century the mill was used to process grains, plaster, talc, and graphite. It was even used to generate electricity and pump water for and into the town.

In 1848, brothers Francis, Patrick and Terence Mulligan founded the Mulligan family quarry, which provided limestone and everything necessary to support the village. The original quarry office, lime kilns, screen house, dynamite shed, and stone crusher are readily available to view. There is also a working blacksmith shop and tenant house displaying a turn-of-the-century store.

The Museum itself has a collection of more than 40,000 artifacts and is on the State and National Register of Historic Places. The collection is on a permanent and rotating basis, showing textiles (clothing, quilts, and linens), baskets, Victorian household accessories, woodworking tools, lighting artifacts, and farm equipment.
