Skylands Region

Fewer than 40 miles from [manhatta], this region is characterized by diverse attractions. There are many destinations for history buffs, horse and nature lovers, fair-goers and arts enthusiasts, wine-tasters and folks who frequent fresh produce stands.

The city of Clinton boasts the Clinton Historical Museum. Consisting of 10 acres, this National Historic Site features Hunt's Mill, dating to 1810, and the 1800s Mulligan Limestone Quarry. No fewer than 40,000 artifacts of the region's industrial and agricultural history rest here.

The New Jersey Shakespeare Festival, the state's only theater of its type, is located in Madison. In addition to the Bard's plays, other classics are performed.

The Ukraine's history and lifeways come alive in Somerset at the Ukrainian Cultural Center & Museum of St. Andrew's Consistory. Here visitors will encounter St. Sofia Seminary, St. Andrew's Church and Cemetery, Ukrainian Cultural Center and the Orthodox Church Museum.

Lebanon is home to the Hunterdon County Parks System Arboretum, comprising entire groves, each consisting of a single type of tree. The Frelinghuysen Arboretum in Morristown features a Braille path among its 127 acres of self-guided trails. A historic mansion also is situated here.

Wheat beer is the exclusive product at High Point Wheat Beer Company in Butler. German-style Weiss beer is brewed here, purporting to be the the highest-rated dark wheat beer in the world. Those who enjoy wine tasting and more will head to Unionville Vineyards in Ringoes. In addition to complimentary tastings, tours, musical evenings, festivals and a picnic area are offered.
