Carrizozo is in Lincoln County, and in the Southeast New Mexico region (of which it is the county seat). Carrizozo is found northwest of Roswell between Socorro and Roswell along US Highway 380 near the Lincoln National Forest. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 1,442, an increase of 367 since 1990.
