Hope is in Eddy County, and in the Southeast New Mexico region. This community is located on US Hwy 82 west of Artesia.
It is said that Hope, in 1888 got its name when two residents threw a dime in the air and shot at it. One of them said, I hope you lose. His opponent did and the winner chose Hope. In 1912 a railroad line was under construction to the town when one of the major investors died on the Titanic. While no longer represented as a railroad town, Hope is currently a farming and ranching community.
