Martinez Hacienda is thought to be the only restored
hacienda open to the public. It was built in 1804 by Padre Antonio Severino Martinez, a merchant and
alcalde -mayor- of Taos. The fortress like house has 21 rooms built around two large
placitas, or patios. Furnished in period, it contains exhibits of spanish colonial life and culture. Living-history demonstrations are presented. A combination ticket is available with
Ernest L. Blumenschein Home and
Kit Carson Home and Museum.
