In recognition of the Symphony's services throughout the state, Governor Jerry Apodaca issued an executive order on January 26, 1976 by which the Albuquerque Symphony Orchestra, in existence since 1932 became the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra. In addition to a diverse mix of classical and pops programming, the organization plays and active role in bringing the arts to schools and the Albuquerque metropolitan area.
