Petroglyph National Monument covers 17 miles along Albuquerque's West Mesa, a volcanic basalt escarpment that dominates the citys western horizon. There is a large collection of petroglyphs or prehistoric rock art images on the West Mesa volcanic escarpment. The visitor center is located 3 miles north of I-40 on Unser.
