The ruins are near the entrance to the
Taos Pueblo. Sections of the massive walls and a portion of an original bell tower are all that remain. Established about 1598, the mission was burned by the Pueblos in their 1680 rebellion, restored 25 years later and finally destroyed by US troops during a revolt in 1847.
