Inhabited since the 12th century; 1629-1640 both the Mission and the pueblo are National Historic Landmarks. The sand used in contruction was carried to the mesa top; the log beams were hand-cut and carried from Mount Taylor, over 30 miles away. Within the mission are religious paintings, an altar and images of saints. "Sky City"
