San Antonio is in Socorro County, and in the Southwest New Mexico region. To find San Antonio, just go south of Albuquerque between Socorro and Carrizozo, along US Highway 380 on the banks of the Rio Grande River. There is also a San Antonio, Texas.
From the late 1800s and to the early 1900s, San Antonio's growing population and expanding boundaries were the cause of problems brought about by flooding. If steps to control the flooding had not been taken in the 1920s, the later commercial development along the river would not have been possible.
