Truth or Consequences is in Sierra County, and in the Southwest New Mexico region. To locate Truth or Consequences, travel north of Las Cruces between Socorro and Las Cruces along Interstate 25 on the banks of the Rio Grande River near Elephant Butte Lake and the Caballo Reservoir.

In 1950, NBC television and radio producer Ralph Edwards, on the 10th anniversary of the Truth or Consequences radio program, gathered his staff together and said, "I wish that some town in the United States liked and respected our show so much that it would like to change it's name to 'Truth or Consequences.'" After hearing the proposition, the former town name of Hot Springs, became Truth or Consequences.

Truth or Consequences is known as The Water Wonderland of New Mexico. The surrounding area offers Geothermal Hot Springs, Lakes and Rivers, Clean Desert Air, and Beautiful Mountain Vistas.
