Battle Mountain is located in
Lander County, of which it is the county seat, northeast of
Reno between
Winnemucca and
Elko along Interstate 80 on the banks of the
Humboldt River in the
Northern Region of the state.
When the Washington Post chose Battle Mountain as the "Armpit of America" in 2001, the community fought back with a "Festival of the Pit".
