The small town of Gabbs runs along State Route 361 and sits in Southwest Nevada in the South Central Region of the state. Gabbs is part of the Las Vegas, Nevada-Arizona metro area. One tradition says the community was named for E.S. Gabbs, engineer; another suggests it may have been named for paleontologist William M. Gabb.
