Grant Range Wilderness Area

Search Elko Nevada

From Troy Peak at 11,298 feet this area falls away to a few firs and bristlecone pines and on down to dryland pinyon-juniper with a sagebrush understory. Raptors find this area appealing. There are no maintained trails, but quite a few abandoned four-wheel-drive tracks extend into the area from the eastern and western sides. You'll find no lakes and precious little water except when snow melts and runs off from higher elevations. Small springs are marked on the map but are not reliable. Grant Range Wilderness and Quinn Canyon Wilderness (to the south) are separated by a dirt road, and the two were almost one. It is relatively easy to attain the high country with great views.
